HIPAA Compliance on data portability

Have any of the IT or other professionals on this site heard whether or not there are rules involving patient names in demographics. Specifically, we don't allow special characters, but what about Spaces for people with two first names, such as Betty Jo or Billy Bob? Should we be putting them in as BettyJo with no space?
